Lips and gums are protected, the gel is applied and activated according to the chosen protocol.

The shade achieved is checked, first-48-hours advice is given, and a touch-up is discussed if warranted.

How much does teeth whitening cost in Switzerland?
Whitening is an aesthetic treatment: it is not, as a rule, covered by Swiss compulsory health insurance (LAMal), which only covers dental care made necessary by illness. Some supplementary policies contribute in part – check yours before the appointment.
At Cabinet Dentaire du Casino, the quotation sets out the option, the number of sessions and the materials before you commit to anything. Our fees follow the Swiss dental tariff structure.
Being straight with you
What whitening does not do
- It does not lighten crowns, veneers, bridges or composite fillings. Those materials keep their shade. If your natural teeth lighten around a visible front restoration, replacing it may become necessary for a matching result. We discuss this before, not after.
- It does not fix deep discolouration in one go. A darkened root-treated tooth, a fluorosis mark or medication-related staining call for different approaches.
- It does not last forever. Coffee, tea, red wine, tobacco and daily hygiene all make the shade drift back. A supervised touch-up is far better than repeated use of over-the-counter products.
- It is not suitable for everyone. Pregnancy and breastfeeding, being under 18, untreated decay, active periodontitis, cracked enamel or marked sensitivity mean the treatment is postponed or ruled out.
- It is no substitute for hygiene. On teeth covered in plaque and calculus, lightening is patchy and disappointing. Professional cleaning comes first.

Making the result last
The first 48 hours
Enamel is temporarily more receptive to pigments. This is the window in which to avoid coffee, tea, red wine, tomato sauce, curry and tobacco.
Passing sensitivity
Cold sensitivity may appear and usually settles within one to three days. A desensitising toothpaste helps; tell us about any pain that persists.
Everyday care
Brushing twice a day, interdental brushes or floss, and rinsing with water after a coloured drink: these are what genuinely extend the result.
Regular check-ups
Periodic cleaning removes the external stains that dull the shade and avoids resorting to whitening too often.
Caution with kits
Over-the-counter kits and abrasive home remedies – baking soda, charcoal, lemon – can wear enamel without changing the internal shade. The SSO warns against them explicitly.
Supervised touch-ups
A well-spaced touch-up, decided at the practice, is enough in most cases. Repeating courses close together does not improve the result.

How much does teeth whitening cost in Montreux?

Is teeth whitening covered by insurance in Switzerland?
No. Swiss compulsory health insurance (LAMal) only covers dental care made necessary by illness. As whitening is aesthetic, it is paid privately. Some supplementary policies contribute in part: check yours before the appointment.
How many shades can I gain?
The gain depends on your starting shade, the origin of the discolouration and your individual response. Quoting a number of shades valid for everyone would be misleading. We record the shade against a guide before and after, which lets you compare your own case objectively.
Does whitening damage enamel?
Carried out by a professional after diagnosis, with suitable products and concentrations, it is not considered damaging to healthy enamel. The risk comes mainly from freely available abrasive products and repeated unsupervised use. Transient sensitivity remains possible.
Is it painful?
The session is generally not painful. Cold sensitivity may appear during or after and usually settles within one to three days. Concentration and duration are adapted if you are sensitive.
Will my crowns and veneers whiten too?
No. Restorative materials do not react to whitening agents. If a visible crown or veneer ends up too dark against the lightened neighbouring teeth, replacing it can be discussed. This is assessed at the initial check.
Do I need a cleaning first?
Not always. It becomes useful when deposits or external stains prevent a correct shade assessment or an even result. In some cases, cleaning alone is enough to restore a satisfying shade.
How long does the result last?
Stability varies with hygiene, tobacco, diet and starting shade. No duration can be guaranteed. Regular maintenance and periodic check-ups let you space touch-ups out considerably.
Can I whiten during pregnancy?
Whitening is ruled out during pregnancy and breastfeeding, as a precaution. It is also not advised before the age of 18. Professional cleaning remains possible and is often enough to restore brightness.
Whitening or veneers: which should I choose?
Whitening changes the shade of well-aligned natural teeth. Veneers additionally correct shape, gaps or cracks, but involve preparing the tooth. When both are considered, whitening is done first, and the veneer shade is then chosen to match.
