What to do while waiting

Swelling: apply a cold pack outside the cheek for short intervals; do not apply heat.
Knocked-out permanent tooth: hold it by the crown, not the root. If safe, gently reposition it; otherwise keep it in milk and seek immediate care. Never reinsert a baby tooth.
Broken tooth: keep any fragment and avoid chewing on that side.
Pain relief: use only a medicine suitable for you and follow the package or professional advice. Do not place aspirin on the gum.
