Cavity treatment, root canal treatment, ceramic inlay: process, pain, price (CHF 150 to 1,500) and insurance reimbursement at Cabinet du Casino in Montreux.
Cavity, fractured tooth, affected nerve: conservative dental treatments cover all treatments that help keep your natural teeth for as long as possible. Here is what they include, how they work and what they cost in Montreux.
Conservative treatment refers to any treatment aimed at preserving the natural tooth rather than extracting it. This includes cavity treatment (fillings, composite), root canal treatment, ceramic inlays and onlays, as well as the management of dental fractures.
Treatment begins with a full assessment including X-rays. Under local anesthesia, the dentist removes the decayed tissue and cleans the tooth. The cavity is then filled with a tooth-coloured composite, or a ceramic inlay for more extensive cavities. The procedure generally takes 30 to 60 minutes, and you can resume your normal activities immediately afterwards.
Root canal treatment (endodontic treatment) is indicated when a cavity or infection reaches the dental pulp, the nerve. Under local anesthesia, the root canals are cleaned, disinfected and then sealed tightly, and the tooth is then protected with a crown or an inlay. Contrary to popular belief, root canal treatment is not painful thanks to local anesthesia — it is actually the untreated infection that hurts, not the treatment.
An inlay is a ceramic restoration custom-made in a laboratory to replace part of a tooth destroyed by decay. Stronger, more aesthetic and more durable than a composite placed directly in the mouth, it is ideal for medium to extensive cavities that do not yet require a full crown. An onlay covers a larger surface, extending over one or more cusps.
Fees are set by the TarMed system (tariff for medical and dental procedures in Switzerland):
A detailed quote is always provided before any treatment.
In Switzerland, basic LaMal health insurance generally does not cover dental care, except for accidents, serious illnesses or malformations. A supplementary dental insurance supplementary dental insurance (Dentsana, Sanagate…) can, however, cover 50 to 75% of the costs depending on your coverage — check with your health insurer before your consultation.
